Praising his energy, effectiveness and leadership, former Mayor David Dinkins will endorse City Councilman Robert Jackson for Manhattan Borough President. Mayor Dinkins served as Manhattan Borough President from 1986 – 1989.
"Robert Jackson is an effective and energetic fighter for affordable housing, safe streets, and quality education for the people of Manhattan,” said Mayor Dinkins. “His advocacy brought New York City’s public schools billions of dollars of funding for programs and services designed to give our children a better chance.
“Robert understands the challenges we face in this borough and has proven that he can get the job done. He has been a strong, hard-working, progressive leader in the City Council, and I have great confidence that he will continue to advocate for measures that promise to improve the lives of all the people of the borough of Manhattan. I endorse Robert Jackson as my candidate for Manhattan Borough President, and am proud to add my name to his long and growing list of supporters."
“I thank Mayor Dinkins for his endorsement and the work he has done and continues to do everyday for the people our city. He is an historic trail blazer who knows this office and loves this city," said Councilmember Jackson. “My campaign is getting a great reception every place we go. This is another sign of the momentum we are feeling as we build a large and diverse grassroots campaign that is moving this campaign forward. I am honored to have his support and look forward to campaigning side-by-side with him to make a difference for families today, and generations to come.”
